Lead times
Suppressors aren’t tracked by order number through production, since we manufacture in batches based on model configuration. Beyond our estimated 8–12 week lead time, we don’t have a more specific timeline to provide.
Once a serial number is assigned to your order, your order will ship within the next several business days, and you’ll receive a shipping notification with tracking info.
Returns Policy
Due to the regulated nature of suppressors under the National Firearms Act (NFA), all sales are final. Once an order has been placed and submitted for transfer, it may not be canceled, refunded, or exchanged.
Backdraft Suppressors will only accept responsibility in cases where an incorrect product is shipped or where a product is determined to be defective in materials or workmanship. In such instances, Backdraft Suppressors will, at its sole discretion, repair or replace the item.
Non-NFA items such as un-opened ammo, apparel and HUB adapters can be returned within 30 days of shipped order.

Guide to Buying a Suppressor & HUB Adapter
Buying a suppressor can feel complicated. Calibers, bore sizes, barrel lengths, HUB mounts, thread pitches, FFL/SOT dealers and ATF paperwork introduce a lot of new terminology at once.
The good news? Once you understand a few basics, choosing and buying the right suppressor is much easier.
This guide will walk you through the process—from choosing your suppressor to picking it up from your dealer.
First: what does a suppressor actually do?
A suppressor attaches to the muzzle of a firearm and helps reduce the sound signature and muzzle blast produced when firing.
Despite what you may have seen in movies, a suppressor does not make a firearm completely silent.
Suppressors can help reduce:
- Sound signature
- Muzzle blast
- Recoil
- Muzzle flash
For many shooters, the benefits go well beyond sound reduction. A suppressor can make a firearm more comfortable to shoot and reduce the overall signature of the firearm.
Hearing protection may still be appropriate or necessary when shooting suppressed.
Step 1: Start with your caliber
Before choosing a suppressor, start with the firearm you plan to suppress.
Ask yourself:
What caliber am I shooting?
Backdraft suppressors are available in five bore sizes:
5.56mm | 6.5mm | 7.62mm | 9mm | .45 cal
Your suppressor must be rated appropriately for the cartridge you're shooting.
Can one suppressor work with multiple calibers?
Yes.
A larger-bore suppressor can generally be used with compatible smaller calibers, provided the suppressor is rated for the cartridge, barrel length and pressure involved.
There is a tradeoff.
When firing a smaller projectile through a larger suppressor bore, more gas can bypass the projectile. That means you may lose some suppression efficiency compared with a suppressor more closely matched to the caliber.
Beginner Tip: If you're planning to use one suppressor across several firearms, a larger bore can offer additional versatility. If you're primarily suppressing one firearm, choosing a bore closer to that caliber may provide greater efficiency.
Step 2: Choose your length
Backdraft suppressors are available in:
4" | 6" | 8"
Suppressor length affects the overall size, weight and performance of your firearm.
In general, a shorter suppressor keeps the firearm more compact, while a longer suppressor provides additional internal volume for managing expanding gases.
Suppressor’s different lengths also contain different numbers of baffles:
| Suppressor Length | Baffles |
|---|---|
| 4" | 3 |
| 6" | 6 |
| 8" | 6 |
Choosing a length ultimately comes down to how you plan to use your firearm and what you value most.
Think about the balance between:
Size Weight Sound reduction Application
A hunter carrying a rifle for miles may have different priorities than someone primarily shooting from a bench.
Step 3: Choose your material — Hunter or Poacher
One of the biggest decisions when choosing a Suppressor is the material.
Backdraft Suppressors offers both aluminum and steel suppressors.
Aluminum
Backdraft Hunter
The Hunter is the lighter-weight option and is a natural choice when keeping overall rifle weight down is a priority.
Think hunting rifles, field rifles and applications where you're carrying the firearm more than you're firing extended strings.
The Hunter is not full-auto rated.
Steel
Backdraft Poacher
The Poacher is constructed from steel and is designed to accommodate higher pressure tiers and more demanding applications.
The Poacher is full-auto rated.
It is also required for certain shorter-barrel configurations.
Which should you choose?
Start with how you actually shoot.
If minimizing weight is your priority and your firearm falls within the Hunter's ratings, the Hunter may fit your application.
If you need higher pressure capability, a shorter barrel configuration or a full-auto rating, look to the Poacher.
Step 4: Check your barrel length and pressure
This is important.
Suppressor compatibility isn't determined by caliber alone.
Caliber + pressure + barrel length all matter.
Backdraft Suppressors current ratings are:
| Model | Rating |
|---|---|
| Backdraft Hunter — Non-Magnum | Rated up to .308 Win with a 20" barrel or longer |
| Backdraft Hunter — Magnum | Rated up to .300 PRC with a 26" barrel or longer |
| Backdraft Poacher | Rated up to .308 Win with a 16" barrel or longer |
If you're shooting anything under a 20" barrel, you must upgrade to the Poacher.
Backdraft suppressors are not rated for cartridges exceeding 65,000 PSI, including 7mm Backcountry, +P/“Peak” ammunition exceeding that pressure limit, and .277 Fury configurations exceeding the suppressor's pressure rating.
Never use a suppressor outside its published caliber, pressure or barrel-length ratings.
Step 5: Understand how your suppressor attaches
This is where many first-time suppressor buyers get confused.
You don't just need the right suppressor.
You need the right mount.
Backdraft Suppressors offers direct-thread options including:
1/2x28 and 5/8x24
These thread patterns fit many common host firearms, but you should always verify your firearm's actual barrel threads before ordering.
Backdraft's current suppressor lineup also uses the industry-standard:
1-3/8x24 TPI HUB interface
also commonly referred to as the 1.375"x24 Bravo/HUB pattern.
This allows compatible third-party HUB mounting devices and adapters to be used.
Confirm the proper adapter and compatibility for your specific barrel before purchase.
Step 6: Direct thread or another mount?
The simplest approach may be a direct-thread configuration.
The suppressor threads onto the compatible barrel or adapter.
If you want a different mounting system, Backdraft Suppressor’s universal 1-3/8x24 HUB interface gives you access to compatible aftermarket options.
Backdraft Suppressors does not recommend using muzzle brakes or flash hiders with its suppressors.
A compatible 1.375"x24 Bravo/HUB or Plan B mounting solution may be used as long as no portion of the mounting system protrudes into the suppressor's blast chamber.
Step 7: What about pistols?
Backdraft suppressors can be used on compatible pistols equipped with threaded barrels.
However, there's an important catch.
Many common semi-automatic handguns—including Glock-style tilt-barrel designs—typically require a Nielsen device, piston or booster system for reliable suppressed operation.
Backdraft Suppressors does not currently sell a piston or Nielsen device.
Because Backdraft Suppressors use the universal 1-3/8x24 HUB interface, compatible third-party devices can be sourced separately.
One option we recommend is the Griffin Armament CAM-LOK system for compatible 1/2x28 applications.
Always confirm the compatibility of the complete firearm, suppressor and mounting system before firing.
Step 8: Choose your FFL/SOT dealer
A suppressor cannot simply be shipped directly to you.
Your suppressor must be shipped to an appropriately licensed FFL/SOT dealer, who handles the applicable transfer process before releasing the suppressor to you.
When purchasing from Backdraft Suppressors, you'll enter your ZIP code during checkout and select a local FFL/SOT dealer from the dealer database.
Your dealer must be located in your legal state of residence.
Don't forget about dealer fees.
Individual dealers establish their own suppressor transfer and processing fees.
Before selecting a dealer, it's a good idea to ask:
“What do you charge to receive and process an NFA suppressor transfer?”
That way you know the complete cost before ordering.
Step 9: Place your Suppressor order
Once you've determined:
Caliber Length Material Mount Dealer
you're ready to order.
Backdraft suppressors are manufactured in batches based on model and configuration.
The current estimated production lead time is approximately 8–12 weeks.
Because suppressors are produced in batches, we do not track individual suppressors through production by order number.
Once a serial number is assigned to your order, the suppressor is typically expected to ship within several business days.
You'll receive a shipping notification with tracking information when it ships to your selected FFL/SOT.
Serial numbers cannot be provided ahead of time because they are assigned shortly before shipping.
Step 10: Complete the required transfer process
Once your suppressor reaches the dealer, your FFL/SOT will guide you through the applicable transfer process.
This may include the required ATF paperwork, identification information, photograph, fingerprints and background-check requirements.
Ask your chosen dealer how they handle the process before ordering so you know exactly what to expect.
Do not take possession of the suppressor until the required transfer has been approved and your dealer is legally able to release it to you.
What will my suppressor really cost?
Your suppressor's listed price isn't necessarily your final cost.
Budget for:
- Suppressor
- Mount / adapter
- Shipping
- Dealer transfer / processing fee
- Applicable taxes or fees
Dealer transfer fees vary, so contact your FFL/SOT before placing your order.
Hunter vs. Poacher at a glance
| Backdraft Hunter | Backdraft Poacher | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Aluminum | Steel |
| Primary Advantage | Lighter weight | Higher pressure/duty capability |
| Full-Auto Rated | No | Yes |
| Under 20" Barrel | No | Poacher required |
| Available Lengths | 4", 6", 8" | 4", 6", 8" |
| Available Bores | 5.56, 6.5, 7.62, 9mm, .45 | 5.56, 6.5, 7.62, 9mm, .45 |
After you receive your suppressor
Before firing, verify that the suppressor and mount are properly installed and compatible with your firearm.
Pay particular attention to:
- Caliber
- Barrel length
- Thread pitch
- Mount compatibility
- Suppressor alignment
- Ammunition pressure
Suppressors also become extremely hot during use. Never touch a recently fired suppressor with bare hands.
Cleaning your Backdraft suppressor
Backdraft suppressors are non-modular, meaning they are not designed to be disassembled by the customer for cleaning.
For maintenance, Backdraft Suppressors recommends using an ultrasonic cleaner with a suppressor-safe cleaning solvent.
Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the suppressor.
What if I want to change my order?
Changes and cancellations may be possible before the transfer process has been initiated.
Once an order has entered the transfer process, certain changes—including dealer changes—may no longer be possible.
Because suppressors are regulated NFA products, Backdraft Suppressors does NOT accept returns on suppressors.
If you need to make a change, contact Backdraft Suppressors as soon as possible rather than waiting until the suppressor ships.
Backdraft lifetime warranty
Every Backdraft suppressor is backed by a lifetime warranty.
If you believe there is a problem with your suppressor, submit a warranty request to Backdraft Suppressors rather than attempting to repair or modify the suppressor yourself.
This guide is provided for general educational purposes and is not legal advice. Suppressor laws and transfer requirements can vary by jurisdiction and change over time. Always verify current federal, state and local requirements and follow all manufacturer instructions and published ratings.

Specs & Compatibility
What materials are your suppressors made from?
We offer both aluminum and steel models. Aluminum options are typically lighter, while steel models generally support higher pressure tiers and full-auto ratings.
What lengths are available?
Our lineup includes 4", 6" and 8" options.
Are your suppressors multi-caliber?
Yes — you can use a larger-bore suppressor for smaller calibers, though you’ll lose some efficiency due to gases bypassing the larger bore.
What bore sizes do you offer?
We offer five bore sizes across the product lines. 5.56mm, 6.5mm, 7.62mm, 9mm, .45cal.
What mounting/thread options are available?
Our suppressors mount via direct-thread options in 5/8x24 and 1/2x28 to fit a wide range of host firearms.
Is my suppressor rated for full-auto use?
The Backdraft Poacher (steel) is full-auto rated. The Backdraft Hunter (aluminum) is not.
Can I use a suppressor with any firearm?
No — the suppressor's caliber rating and thread pitch must match your firearm's barrel, and the barrel length must fall within the suppressor's rated range. Using a suppressor on a caliber, thread, or barrel length it isn’t rated for can damage the suppressor or firearm and is unsafe.
Can I use a suppressor on a pistol or handgun?
Yes, only if it has a threaded barrel. For handguns with tilt-barrel operation (Glock or similar), you’ll most likely need a Nielsen device or a piston booster system.
Do you sell a piston, Nielsen device, or booster?
No. Our suppressors use universal 1-3/8x24 TPI HUB (1.375" x 24 Bravo) threads, compatible with HUB-compatible devices and adapters, so you can source your own.
One option we recommend is the Cam-Lock from Griffin Armament for 1/2-28 barrel threading.
Can I use a muzzle device, flash hider, or QD mount?
We do not recommend the use of muzzle brakes or flash hiders. A 1.375" x 24 Bravo / Plan B compatible mount may be used, as long as no part protrudes into the blast chamber.
How many baffles are in each suppressor?
The 4" has 3 baffles, the 6" has 6 and the 8" has 6.
How do I clean and maintain my suppressor?
Our suppressors are non-modular and cannot be disassembled for cleaning. We recommend using an ultrasonic cleaner with a suppressor-safe cleaning solvent of your choice.
What are the caliber and barrel length ratings for the Backdraft Hunter and Poacher?
| Model | Rating |
|---|---|
| Backdraft Hunter (non-magnum) | Rated up to .308 Win with a 20" barrel or longer |
| Backdraft Hunter (magnum) | Rated up to .300 PRC with a 26" barrel or longer |
| Backdraft Poacher | Rated up to .308 Win with a 16" barrel or longer |
If you’re shooting anything under a 20" barrel length, you must upgrade to the Poacher.
Are your suppressors rated for 7mm Backcountry, +Peak ammunition, or .277 Fury?
No — our suppressors are not rated for any cartridge with pressure exceeding 65,000 PSI.
Do your suppressors make a gun completely silent?
No — suppressors reduce the sound signature of a gunshot but don’t eliminate it. They also reduce recoil and muzzle flash, which is why many shooters use them regardless of noise concerns.
